Barracudas Find It A Tough Learning Curve At Safari Sevens
The young Samurai Barracuda team learned just how difficult it was to play at altitude at the Safari 7s this weekend. The young Barracudas team which included Ben Davey (Sale Sharks Academy) Jamie Hearn (Saracens Academy) as well as 6 young players from Stellenbosch and Jo'Burg Universities, struggled to get going on a boggy pitch in Nairobi.
A 47 - 0 drubbing by IRB WSS core team Kenya, in their very first game was a real baptism of fire for the Barracuda's team. The team unfortunately picked up 2 injuries to key players in their first game, but Samurai Barracuda's guest coach Chester Williams was positive throughout.
The Barracuda's team could only manage one win over the weekend but the experience from a life and playing perspective would have been invaluable to them. Being Coached by Chester Williams will play an important part in their development for the seasons ahead and the experience of seeing rugby developing at grass roots in Kenya helps keep everything in perspective.
